It’s time to get flu vaccines, because it takes 2-4 weeks for antibody to develop, & you can catch the flu in that period of time (and especially, transmit it to vulnerable people without knowing you have it).
Yearly flu vaccination is recommended routinely for *everyone* 6 months & up, but ESPECIALLY pregnant women (protects baby, too), infants/toddlers, people with chronic health conditions, and seniors.
Every year in the United States, on average:
- 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu
- over 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications
- over 36,000 people die from flu. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk for serious flu complications.
